MIJN VERHAAL

Solomon Burke

SINGER AND SONGWRITER

Born in the South of Holland, a child of the seventies, Marques announced to his family at age six he would be a singer when he grew up. The pop music radio of the mid '70s carried a heavy dose of blues, country and R&B music, and Marques gravitated to that sound. His mother was a devoted Tom Jones fan and together they watched the eclectic Tom Jones Show each week. This is where he first saw artists like Joe Cocker, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner and Janis Jolin perform live, which greatly influenced his musical tastes.

By age seventeen, Marques landed his first paying gig at a local bar called The Starlight Nightclub, where he covered songs by Solomon Burke, James Carr, Otis Redding, BB King and others. Marques began writing songs at age 18. He played the local clubs in the Ede area for about 5 years before he began touring, playing house concerts, festivals & coffee houses all over the country.

Solomon Burke

Marques moved to Tilburg, in 1988 where he mainly kept himself busy drinking and pretending to be a student. Only in 1992 at age 22 Marques started singing again. This time mainly blues and soul. It took an appearance on a Solomon Burke concert in Tilburg to get Marques noted again. Burke just made his comeback with the grammy winning album Don’t Give Up On Me and asked Marc to join him on stage by chance. Singing with his idol draw a lot of attention. This particular show got voted the best show at the 5 years lustrum celebrations of the Tilburg concert hall.

Regional TV and radio where certainly interested an that landed Marques with a record deal. In 2007 Marques recorded an album “The Longest Night” which got Marques noted by his pears but which did not do a lot in the charts. It got him the attention of some great musicians. Marc toured the country and sang again with Solomon Burke, Ian Siegal, Kees Dusink and a lot of regional talent.

Now Marques has joined forces with Foxer. He brings his own material still heavily soul and blues influenced. Ever trying to create a current sound Marques joined forces with the young DJ’s and talented producers signed by Foxer Agency.

Now he joins our Foxer team to explore a new adventure!
