DE DIVERSITEIT AAN STIJLEN

Vanessa Marcia is een muzikant en zangeres uit Nederland met Surinaamse roots. In haar jongere jaren werd zij beïnvloed door verschillende soorten muziekstijlen, zoals Gospel, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Latin, Afrobeats, Kaseko Kawina (haar traditionele muziek) en andere verschillende soorten Caribische muziekstijlen.

Op vroege leeftijd zong Vanessa in het Jeugdkoor in de kerk waar ze ook de piano leerde te spelen. Naast muziek, ontdekte zij ook haar acteer- en danstalent.

Vanessa kreeg jarenlang pianolessen en na de middelbare school wilde zij zelf een muziekleraar worden. Na de auditie kon zij beginnen aan het (voormalig) Conservatorium, maar toch besloot zij om Maatschappelijk Werk te studeren. Na het behalen van haar diploma bleef zij vele jaren werken in het maatschappelijke werkgebied.

Tijdens haar maatschappelijke carrière ontmoette zij vele kwetsbare getalenteerde personen die allemaal om steun en hulp vroegen. Dit inspireerde haar om haar eigen stichting te starten: VVFLEX. Deze stichting werkt met de cliënten aan talentontwikkeling en empowerment. Haar werkzaamheden met deze jonge en opkomende talenten inspireerde Vanessa om aan haar eigen talenten te werken. Door deze inspiratie begon zij weer te zingen bij vele Gospel koren in kerken, bands en groepen, en leerde verschillende instrumenten te bespelen.

Liefde voor acteren

Vanessa was ook altijd bezig met haar liefde voor acteren, waarna zij uiteindelijk lid werd van een theatergroep. In deze tijd speelde zij in een aantal semiprofessionele musicals en begon aan de studie trainingsactrice.

In 2010 startte Vanessa haar eigen multi-etnische vrouwenband genaamd ‘Ladiesjam’. Al van kinds af aan droomde zij om dit te bereiken. Na vele jaren werken als muzikant en achtergrondzangeres voor lokale en internationale artiesten, begon Vanessa met het maken van solo muziekwerk in 2018. Haar eerste solo single ‘Own Me Forever’ werd door haar uitgebracht in 2019. Deze single maakte zij samen met Gambiaanse reggae en dancehall artiest Sensi Q.

Sinds dit debuut is Vanessa veel meer bezig met het maken van muziek. Zij speelt en produceert diverse stijlen, zoals Reggae, Soul, Hip-Hop, Afrobeats, Caribisch en een combinatie ervan. Omdat zij is opgegroeid met zoveel stijlen, is dit een groot deel van haar geworden. Haar tweede droom kwam uit in 2011; haar loopbaan kreeg een boost toen zij begon te werken als muzieklerares in scholen, instanties en privé muzieklessen.

Nu maakt Vanessa deel uit van ons Foxer-team om nieuwe uitdagingen aan te gaan!

DIVERSITY OF STYLES

Vanessa Marcia is a musician and singer from the Netherlands, with Surinamese roots. Growing up she got influenced by a lot of music styles, like gospel, soul, R&B, jazz, hiphop, reggae, latin, afrobeats, her traditional music kaseko kawina and other Caribbean music styles.

At a young age she started to sing in the youth choir in church and learned to play the piano. Besides music Vanessa discovered her talent in acting and dancing.

She got piano lessons for years and after highschool she wanted to become a music teacher herself. After audition she could start at the prior education of the Conservatory, but she decided to study social work and after graduation she worked many years in that work field.

During her social work career Vanessa met lots of vulnerable people with talents who asked for help and support, which inspired her to start her own foundation, called VVFLEX, that is working on talent development and empowerment. Working with young talents and upcoming artists, Vanessa got inspired to work also on her own talents again and she attended many gospelchoirs, bands, and groups and learned to play different instruments.

Love for acting

She also paid attention to her love for acting and through the years she joined a theatre group, played in a few semi-professional musicals, and she did a study as a training-actor.

In 2010 started her own multi-ethnical all women band 'Ladiesjam', which was a goal she dreamt of since she was a little girl. After many years of being active as a musician and backing singer for local and international artists, Vanessa started to create solo work since 2018. She released her first solo single "Own Me Forever" in 2019, featuring Gambian reggae/dancehall artist Sensi Q.

After this debut Vanessa has been working on more music. Because she is raised with so many styles she also plays and produces a diversity of styles; reggae, soul, hiphop, afrobeats, caribbean styles and fusions are all part of her. And also her other dream came true; since 2011 she's actively working as a music teacher in schools, instancies and private lessons.
